Live from the 2009 FAA Education Conference and Trade Show

Welcome to the 2009 FAA Education Conference & Trade Show. The Florida Apartment Association’s theme for this year’s show is “Catch the Next Wave…Industry Innovations” which will center around marketing and customer service, technology and training, and green initiatives.

Myself and Annemarie Price will be bringing you images, observations and commentary throughout the show. So, check back here often!

Day 1 of FAA

11:28 AM – Margie Burba of Screening Reports Inc. helps property managers screen tenants to ensure they have applicants with clear criminal records. Here she displays some of their hi tech tools! The screening business is highly competitive and vendors frequently compete on price, data models, and manual checking of court files as opposed to a national criminal records.

11:55 AM – FAA attendees wait to enter the exhibit area to visit with vendors, learn about new technology, but most importantly to have lunch!

12:15 PM – Dave Watkins visits Annemarie Price of AppFolio Property Manager at the FAA tradeshow. Dave remembered AppFolio from the NAA show in Las Vegas and welcomed us to the FAA exhibit. Very nice guy!

12:30 PM – Property managers Tabitha Matthews, Christy Holloway and Jodi Whitehead at FAA exhibit wear their pink flamingos from Vendor Guide who’s giving up to $1000 if attendees are wearing their going-green, one-leg-up flamingos. Vendor Guide, as the name implies, is a resource guide of vendors for property managers.

12:35 PM – Busy lunch time rush at FAA .

12:42 PM – Adriana Santorini and Catherine Brody love to get free goodies at the FAA trade show…they got a cool key chain. They are most excited about the technology track education and internet marketing.

1:45 PM – Shera Jewett and Esther Wilson from Greystar are on the hunt for vendor giveaways. Favorites so far include a cellphone holder and chapstick. They are looking forward to the marketing educational track and want to learn how to do video tours and post them to the Internet! Everyone is hoping that Spielberg is teaching the class.

2:14 PM – Will from Carpet Company 3 takes a break. Trade shows can be exhausting! Carpet Company 3 specializes in flooring that eliminates pet odor…it’s also great to sleep on!

2:40 PM – Surf’s up!

2:47 PM – Best giveaway bowl goes to Roto-Rooter.

2:53 PM – Candy!!

6:30 PM – Erica Campbell is the marketing manager for For Rent Media Solutions. Erica will be on the social media panel at FAA tomorrow morning. When not tweeting, blogging, or friending people, Erica is a jock.  She runs half marathons, plays soccer, and basketball, all the while texting friends at the same time.

7:07 PM – Albert demoing AppFolio Property Manager for Mike Whaling, Founder and President of 30 Lines.

Day 2 of FAA

12:31 PM – Carlos De La Cruz and Stefani De Vita learn about AppFolio from Annemarie. Both have experience in businesses and are looking for a software solution for managing apartments.

1:07 PM – And the winner is…Catherine Brody of PCMG!! Catherine wins an iPod shuffle at the AppFolio booth. Hopeful FAA attendees look on – prizes have included money, Bucaneer football tickets and iPhones!
