Welcome to Metro Multifamily Housing Association’s (MMHA) 2009 Spectrum Conference & Trade Show. This is the largest rental housing event in Oregon! The theme for this year’s show is “Under the Big Top.” Myself and Linn Sillers will be bringing you images, observations and commentary throughout the show. So, check back here often!
Video of MMHA’s 2009 Spectrum Conference & Tradeshow
A little about the Spectrum show…from the MMHA website (www.metromultifamily.com):
Attendees will have over 20 specialized educational classes to choose from, fabulous cash and door prizes available and an exciting trade show floor full of the services you depend on to manage your properties. Spectrum is the day to have fun, gain valuable insights, network with industry folks and find the newest and most progressive products, resources and services available on the market today; from the 130+ companies represented on the trade show floor.
8:28 AM – Dixie Israel and Stacy Vargas discuss which class to take while making a coffee stop. They are debating whether to take the bedbugs, biohazards, and mold class! What they really want to learn about are spiders! Yikes!

9:01 AM – Linn Sillers of AppFolio Property Manager practices her presentation skills at the opening of the MMHA Spectrum Trade Show.

9:05 AM – Metro Multifamily Housing Association’s Spectrum Trade Show is an absolute circus! No, really, the show opened with a circus act above the main floor!

9:13 AM – The MMHA Spectrum show is supporting the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital this year with donated toys.

9:20 AM – Cody Halsey of Cascade Property Management looks on as part of a panel of speakers talking about legal, financial and tax information when investing in property. Buy low, sell high and look out for the tax man!

9:29 AM – Mindy Williams of Rent and Retain Magazine draws a crowd teaching attendees how to attract and retain good residents. Mindy talks about very tactical ways to create a community of good neighbors. It takes a village to create a place where people want to stay and live!

9:43 AM – MMHA’s 2009 Spectrum “Under the Big Top” Trade Show has lots of great shows for attendees. Topics on everyone’s mind include high wire acts on resident placement and retention, trapeze artists on tenant landlord laws, and intricate acts on operational efficiency! Get some peanuts, learn a little and have some fun!

10:19 AM – Lisa Babb of Tenant Technologies shows off why their web-based forms are so good for the property management community. All lease forms, rental applications and other agreements conform to Washington and Oregon laws and they’re all online! What could be yummier than that?

10:35 AM – Linn shows C&R Real Estate on-sites Mandy and Thomas Augsburger how AppFolio’s online property management software integrates marketing and property management accounting into one solution.

11:58 AM – Shauna Wesley of Guardian shows off her favorite giveaway at the mmha spectrum show. How did she win it? “I just asked if I could have it for my daughter and they gave it to me!”. Um… My son wants a BMW. Can I have one please?

12:04 PM – Scott Aaxton co-owner of AER Fitness stands by his mascot. When people said “AER,” the “r” sounded like “rrrrrr” as in pirate. AER specializes in servicing fitness equipment. They focus on their service business first and their sales second!

12:21 PM – Andy has packed the house. Here he is discussing landlord tenant law.

12:28 PM – Deborah Imse and Larry Bricker educate attendees on legislative updates that effect MMHA members. New law: all MMHA members get creamsicles at the apartment finders booth!

12:54 PM – Linn makes friends with Emily Moffatt and Mindie Gum-Grivell of Quantum. Their favorite class was Mindy Williams “rent and retain them” class.

1:07 PM – Lunchtime entertainment included acrobats! Giant shadows play on the wall while Albert eyes the the turkey lunch boxes…all of them!

1:17 PM – Sarah Burk and Jen Harbaugh of A-Wol Dance pose on the ground. Most of their time is spent in the air doing aerial dance! See them September 17 and 18 at the World Trade Center atrium in Portland, OR. Just look up!

Well, that’s it folks. We had a blast! Thanks for watching and if you have any thoughts on how we can improve our live coverage of future shows, please drop us a line. For past live coverage of events, check out the 2009 FAA Education Conference and Trade Show.
