James “Whitey” Bulger was finally caught and arrested by law enforcement after spending the last 16 years on America’s Most Wanted list. Bulger, now 81 years old, had been a fugitive in connection to 19 murders, and had moved from Boston, MA to Santa Monica, CA where he was hiding in plain sight. Bulger is the crime boss that the Martin Scorsese film “The Departed” was based on. He had been renting an apartment in Southern California for 15 years where fellow residents said that they had no idea that they were living in the same building as the notorious mobster.
The capture of ‘Whitey’ Bulger brings an end to a long winded manhunt but may also open the doors to new investigations of police and FBI crime involvement. Bulger faces charges of murder, narcotics distribution, conspiracy, extortion and money laundering. “If Bulger decides to cut a deal with prosecutors, he could implicate an untold number of local, state and federal law enforcement officials, according to investigators….”
