DNA testing for Dog Poop

DNA testing for Dog Poop

Property managers are getting fed up with irresponsible dog owners who do not pick up their dog’s poop on the property. A New Hampshire apartment community is requiring residents to hand over a DNA sample for their pet. These property managers collect a mouth swab from the dog and then when poop is left on the property, they can check it against their samples using PooPrints.

“The tests bought through PooPrints, a subsidiary of BioPet Vet Lab in Knoxville, Tennessee, match the DNA already captured to a sample of each pet’s waste. Poop that isn’t scooped can then be analyzed.”

Managers believe the problem is getting worse and they want to create a clean and nice environment for their residents. If offenders are caught leaving their dog’s waste on the property they may receive a warning the first time and have to pay the $60 lab fee. However, if residents continue to neglect to pick up their pet’s waste, it could result in a lease violation and potential eviction.

What do you think about using a PooPrints policy in your community?
