A Navy F-18 fighter jet crashed into a Virginia apartment complex on Friday. According to WWBT-TV, two pilots and five civilians were sent to the hospital. There were no reported deaths or missing people. The jet struck the complex around 12:05p.m., shortly after departing from a nearby naval air base, MSNBC reports.
A volunteer rescuer found one crewman that ejected still strapped to his ejection seat. “I’m so sorry I crashed into your building,” the crewman said, according to the Reuter’s report of the rescuer’s account. According to a fire chief, the crash sparked a massive fire damaging five apartment buildings. A military investigation will look into possible mechanical defects and maintenance records. Pilot error will certainly be considered.
