According to the Apartment Association of Metro Denver and the Colorado Division of Housing, the average rent in metro Denver for an apartment hit a 10-year high, increasing 4.5 percent in the first quarter.

A Navy fighter jet crashed into a Virginia apartment complex on Friday. According to WWBT-TV, two pilots and five civilians were sent to the hospital. There were no reported deaths or missing people.

Apartment Vacancy Rate Drops to Record Low

The national apartment vacancy rate in the first quarter fell to its lowest level in over a decade, according to real estate research firm Reis Inc. Results released by Reis revealed that rates dropped .30 percentage points to 4.9 percent, the lowest they have been since the fourth quarter of 2001.

Woman Accidentally Shot by Narcotics Cop Searching Brooklyn Apartment

A Japanese tourist staying with friends in a Brooklyn apartment had quite an unexpected morning when a narcotics officer accidentally fired his weapon through the apartment floor grazing the young woman’s arm. The victim was treated at Kings County Hospital and released a few hours later.

Bank of America Announces Rental Program

Selected homeowners facing foreclosure will now have the option to remain in their homes as renters, announced Bank of America. The “Mortgage to Lease” program will include around 1000 homeowners with BofA mortgages in Arizona, Nevada and New York reports CNNMoney.

Foreclosed Properties in Bulk For Sale

Around 2,500 rental properties in neighborhoods hit hard with foreclosures are to go on sale announced U.S finance regulators. CNNMoney reported the properties available are located in Chicago, Atlanta, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and three neighborhoods in Florida. They will be sold in bulk ranging in packages of 99 units in Chicago to 572 units in Atlanta.

NeighborWorks America Invests $1.3 Billion into Rental Homes

NeighborWorks America invested over $1.3 billion in rental housing over the course of its fiscal year ending Sept. 30. The organization consists of 235 independent nonprofit organizations and owns or manages 90,000 rental homes. CEO Eileen Fitzgerald plans to build out the portfolio to exceed 100,000 rental homes through 2013.
